Overview - Chardham Yatra
Chardham Yatra is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage circuit in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand covering four holy sites: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Journeys typically last 10 to 12 days by road or 3 to 5 days by helicopter, operating from late April/May until November. A state registration is mandatory for the journey, which usually runs from April to November, covering 1,500-2,500 km by road.
Yamunotri: Source of Yamuna River and dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. As you travel clockwise, this is the first stop.
Gangotri: Blessing of the Ganga River, dedicated to Goddess Ganga. On the journey, the second stop is reached.
Kedarnath: The Hindu temple of Kedarnath is located in Rudraprayag and dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is home to one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.
Badrinath: In the eastern direction, Badrinath is the last holy site dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Chardham Route: Haridwar/Rishikesh → Yamunotri → Gangotri → Kedarnath → Badrinath.
